A few weeks ago the lovely people over at DotComGiftshop invited me to work with them. I obviously jumped at the opportunity (have you seen how cute the products are!) I am particularly in love with these little milk bottles, they would be amazing for serving eggnog in at Christmas. They very kindly wrote a few words which are far more articulate than I could hope to be, so watch this space for more exciting collaborations with them!
Holiday baking and brilliant gifts
Who doesn’t love holidays? Time off, presents and, most importantly, a tasty treat to accompany every special occasion. Take a look at these scrummy seasonal sweets, and find gift inspiration for you or the baker in your life. Any excuse for more bakeware!
Whether you love a decadent chocolate gateaux, or a simple madeira is more your style, when it comes to birthday treats it’s all about the cake. For something a bit different, why not splurge on some food colourings and whip up a rainbow cake? Whatever you choose, you’ll need a lovely ceramic mixing bowl, and don’t forget to lick the spoon!
What could be more romantic than indulging in a cheesecake with your other half on Valentine’s Day? Classic recipes include white chocolate and raspberry, or a classic New York cheesecake topped with strawberries. Make it in a specially made cheesecake tin with a removable base, and tuck into your divine dessert together with a beautiful lovespoon.
Of course there are Easter eggs galore at this time of year, but let’s not forget classic hot cross buns! The superstitious believe that these brilliant buns, baked on Good Friday, won’t go mouldy for the rest of the year. So make a million and use a piping bag to achieve the perfect Easter cross; you’ll be good for snacks until the next Easter rolls around.
Tea and toast is traditional, but why not push the boat out with a homemade treat to die for? It’s easy to rustle up some sumptuous shortbread for Mother’s Day; it only takes some flour, sugar and (of course) butter. Get the measurements right with some awesome retro baking scales, and serve up your creations on a pretty cake stand. Just remember to give them to your mother!
Treat your dad to a little decadence this Father’s Day with a plate of gooey chocolate brownies. With a plastic spatula you can make sure you don’t miss any of the mixture: the more brownies the better! Make them just the way he likes them by adding his favourite treats, like white chocolate chips, marshmallows, walnuts or fudge.
Trick or treat? A treat every time! So how about making some Halloween cupcakes? These little cakes don’t always have to be about pink icing and sugar flowers: go all out with the holiday spookiness with black icing and iced spiders’ webs. You could even transform your cupcakes into bloodshot eyeballs, ghoulish faces and green monsters. Who says gruesome can’t taste good?
Nothing says festive like a dish of Christmas cookies; from traditional sugar cookies to gingerbread, cinnamon cookies to classic shortbread. With cookie cutters you can make them in the shape of stockings, snowmen and Christmas trees! This is the time of year for family, soshare them around (but we won’t blame you for keeping a secret stash for yourself).
With this many holiday treats there’s no reason to ever stop baking, and thanks to the huge selection of bakeware available at DotComGiftShop you’ll never be out of supplies.
